Single Rose Drawing
Single Rose Artist Grid Drawing Pattern
Set $8.00
From a photograph for this art lesson we overlay a grid pattern to create a pencil image of a Single Rose Flower. This insures our drawing proportions are correct and makes for a more realistic rendering. When we’re done we will have learned drawing techniques for contrasts, hard pencil edges, soft pencil edges and shading in various degrees and many other aspects.

This photo image of a single rose flower is interesting because of the way the light source shines on it. On the leaves of the plant there are many areas of shades and shadows which makes this a wonderful artist learning experience. We are also looking down on the art subject with a little bit of an angle. These art points are what we want the drawn appearance of our Single Rose to have at it’s completion.
Setup Your Drawing Grid Pattern

Let’s start this lesson by creating a grid pattern on a blank sheet of paper. Use a grade pencil that contains hard graphite lead so that it will draw lightly on your drawing surface. Mark off on your drawing sheet lines to create a grid pattern with incremental squares of half inch each. By using this measurement your drawing will be in the neighborhood of seven inches high and seven inches wide. A regular sheet of letter size paper from the copy machine will be big enough to draw on.
